Winter Lights


Dublin City Council has announced that the extremely popular ‘Winter Lights’ campaign will return for the third year this Christmas. From December 1st to January 1st, 17 locations across the city will be transformed with colourful projections and lighting displays to cheer us all up in what has been a challenging year.

John Thomson: Life and Legacy Webinar


John Thomson lived and worked 10 years in Asia. After Siam he spent 5 years in China and photographed many regions from North to South. Thomson had an illustrious career after his return to London in 1872, not only as a renowned photographer and traveller, but also as a writer and teacher.

Live Online DCC Culture Club: Everlasting Happiness


This talk with Guide Brian O’Neill, will give an introduction to the 3rd Ming Emperor, Emperor Yongle, whose name translates as ‘Everlasting Happiness’. The highlight of his truly productive and amazing reign of just over 20 years, is his quest for knowledge, resulting in the creation of a monumental Encyclopaedia, finished in 1407. The Chester Beatty collection holds 3 volumes of this incredible work.

The Hugh Lane Gallery and Sculpture Dublin are working together to deliver a series of monthly online Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) discussion series for adults. VTS is a fun method to look at art and to make meaning out of artworks collectively. You will explore engaging works from the Hugh Lane Gallery’s sculpture collection with a new eye. No background knowledge is needed for the participants nor provided by the facilitator. Canaries


Canaries is a tender observation of the sacrifice and efforts of the Irish female munitions workers during World War 1, a story much less told.  As well as the National Factory at Parkgate Street and Dublin Port, there were state-run munitions factories in Galway, Waterford and Cork employing 4,000 women. A further 5,000 people were employed by a factory in Arklow that manufactured 100 tons of cordite a week. CANARIES hopes to honour the Irish women who risked life and limb to supply ammunition to the frontline.

Scullion and Friends


Scullion have been singing and playing everywhere from bar rooms to box rooms the world over for several decades. Scullion was formed in Ireland in the late 70’s at a time of great musical innovation. Bands such as Planxty, The Bothy Band and De Danann were at their creative peak and legendary Irish label Mulligan Records was releasing The Boomtown Rats, The Radiators, Midnight Well, Sonny Condell and Scullion.
